Using the incomplete infograph, what substances are produced by photosynthesis and consumed by the butterfly?
a) Oxygen & ATP b) Carbon Dioxide and Sunlight c) Oxygen & Glucose d) Water & Glucose
A is incorrect. While the products of Photosynthesis include Oxygen, ATP is not produced by the process of Photosynthesis. B is incorrect because photosynthesis does not produce carbon dioxide or sunlight. Carbon dioxide and sunlight are both reactants in the process of photosynthesis. (Check Photosynthetic Equation). D is incorrect also, Glucose is a product but water, while it is an important reactant of photosynthesis, it is not a product. The correct answer is C, Oxygen and Glucose are both products of photosynthesis and consumed by the butterfly to produce Carbon Dioxide and water.
2. Glycolysis is the process by which….
a) Fruits grow from the plants b) The chloroplasts convert into glucose c) converts nutrients from pyruvate to acetyl-coA d) converts nutrients from acetyl-coA to pyruvate.
A is incorrect, Glycolysis does not cause fruits to grow from the plant. B is incorrect, chloroplasts are the cells that make up the plant and where photosynthesis occurs. These cells never convert into glucose. D is incorrect, before the glucose is broken down into acetyl-coA it must first be broken down into a separate substance. C is correct the Glucose is broken down by enzymes first into pyruvate and then acetyl-coA before being further pushed through the process in the mitochondria.
3. Photosynthesis is to chloroplast as Cellular Respiration is to….a) ATP b)Mitochondria c)Glucose d)Carbon Dioxide
A is incorrect, cellular respiration does not have the process and location relationship as photosynthesis. ATP energy which cellular respiration produces. C is incorrect, glucose is a high energy starch that is not produced by cell respiration and not where the process occurs. D is incorrect, carbon dioxide is produced by cellular respiration but it is not where the process happens. B is correct, as Photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplast, cell respiration occurs in the mitochondria
4. Explain in 2-4 complete sentences how photosynthesis and cellular respiration is a circular system? (hint: cell respiration infographic)
Although photosynthesis and cell respiration occur in seperate parts of the cell. Each of them produces the reactants of their process. Photosynthesis produces glucose and oxygen, which is used by cell respiration in the mitochondria. Cell respiration produces oxygen and water, which are the two of the vital reactants of photosynthesis.
5. Briefly explain what and how Photosynthesis works. Use terms like reactions and products, Oxygen, Carbon dioxide, sunlight, glucose etc.
Photosynthesis is a process by which plants sustain themselves by creating their own nutrients. Photosynthesis requires certain substances, which are called reactants. These reactants include, sunlight, carbon dioxide and water. With water from the roots, sunlight absorbed by chlorophyll in the chloroplasts and carbon dioxide absorbed in the chloroplasts photosynthesis can begin. The reactants nurture the plant and photosynthesis causes products. The products of photosynthesis are oxygen and glucose, which are valuable to the surrounding ecosystem.
